Project Overview
Mondes Projects partnered with local developers in Bristol to execute a large-scale decarbonisation retrofit for a commercial building. The project aimed to significantly reduce energy consumption, lower carbon emissions, and enhance operational efficiency while ensuring long-term sustainability.
Challenges
The building presented multiple challenges, including outdated energy systems, high heating and cooling demands, and inefficient insulation. Addressing these issues required a comprehensive approach that balanced energy performance improvements with the structural integrity of the existing building.
Our Approach
- Energy Audit & Baseline Assessment – We conducted a thorough energy audit to identify inefficiencies and key areas for improvement.
- HVAC System Upgrade – Outdated heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems were replaced with high-efficiency heat pumps and smart climate controls.
- Building Envelope Enhancements – Advanced insulation materials and high-performance glazing were installed to reduce heat loss and optimise energy retention.
- Renewable Energy Integration – Solar panels were installed on the building’s rooftop to generate clean electricity, reducing reliance on the grid.
- Smart Energy Management – A centralised energy management system was implemented to monitor and optimise real-time energy usage.
Results & Impact
- 40% reduction in energy consumption, significantly lowering operational costs.
- Over 6,000 tons of CO₂ emissions eliminated annually, equivalent to removing approximately 1,300 cars from the road.
- Improved occupant comfort through better temperature regulation and indoor air quality.
- Recognition as a sustainability model for commercial retrofits in Bristol, setting a benchmark for future developments.
