Sustainable Cities

We research the feasibility of sustainable city models across the UK, analysing planning policies, green space, infrastructure, and public perception. Our studies include a comparative analysis of the Netherlands’ transport systems, identifying strategies that could improve UK urban sustainability.

We assess the practicality of implementing sustainable infrastructure, benchmarking against global examples to develop recommendations for green spaces, public transport, and emissions reduction. Our research also explores the impact of rising private vehicle emissions if sustainability initiatives are delayed.

People & Places

Our research examines the built environment’s impact on health and wellbeing, focusing on Urban Heat Islands (UHIs), air quality, and green space integration. We combine temperature and air quality data with public surveys to assess the effectiveness of urban greenery in cooling cities and improving livability.

We are expanding this research across Europe to identify best practices for urban cooling, sustainable architecture, and human-centered design, with findings aimed at enhancing UK city planning.

The Environment

We study the human impact on natural ecosystems, including river hydrodynamics, sediment dynamics, and environmental monitoring. Recent projects include analysing river system changes in Ambleside to assess the effects of human activity on water flow and landscape evolution.

We conduct air, water, and soil monitoring in high-risk areas across the UK, collecting data to inform pollution control, conservation strategies, and regulatory compliance.
